Wondering Where to Begin?
Opening a new business is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming.
It's important to remember that establishing your business may take time. After you decide what kind of food business you want to establish,
we can offer you contact information for the local, state and federal government agencies that will have a role in registering, permitting
and licensing your business. You may need to apply for a resale permit and register as an employer.
Being self-employed, you will need to understand how and when your
business will pay self-employment taxes. Additionally, every business
needs various kinds of insurance. We work with several knowledgeable
insurance providers who understand the needs of food businesses. We
are happy to provide referrals.
Before you embark on your business adventure, learn as much as you can
about the responsibilities you will be taking on. Talk to other business
owners, enroll in classes that may be provided in your local community.
Research funding opportunities that may be available to you through local
not for profits. Your neighborhood library is sure to have books about
starting a new business.
Consider maintaining some full or part-time employment while you invest
in establishing and growing your small business. Understand the risks
and costs involved before you take the leap.
In the past 40 years, Eclectic Cookery is proud to have nurtured many
well-known Bay Area food entrepreneurs. We have witnessed many
owners expand and grow their operations into large crews that
eventually left us to begin their own brick and mortar restaurants
throughout the Bay Area. They too are part of our success story.
